The experts, from the Karolinska Institutet in the Kingdom of Sweden, have released their groundwork in the Journal of Interior Medicine.

They say that omega-3 fatty acids, together with some other polyunsaturated fatty acids, build up in the nervous system (CNS) through gestation.

“Past population studies show that omega-3 can guard against Alzheimer’s disease, which tends to make it beneficial to explore the impacts of dietary supplements that contain this collection of fatty acids in patients who have recently experienced the disease.”

As component of a wider study – the OmegAD endeavor, which tracks 200 patients with Dementia – the doctors examined whether omega-3 health supplements alter the CNS fatty acid profile.

Fatty acid values climbed in plasma and cerebrospinal liquid.

Overall 30 men and women participated in this current survey. Among these, 15 were given an omega-3 capsule each day for six months, while 15 were given a placebo during the course of this time.

Towards the end of the research, the omega-3 team had elevated values of DHA and EPA (eicosapentaenoic compound, that is a different omega-3 fatty acid) in their cerebrospinal liquid and blood stream, while the sugar pill group did not show any sign of change.

Furthermore, the scientists noticed that the DHA values correlated with the measure of changes in Alzheimer’s condition and indicators of infection in the cerebrospinal liquid.
