University of East Anglia found in their lab tests on mice that broccoli compound blocks cartilage destroying enzymes. Now, they are proceeding to human trials. For the trials, they have created a hybrid broccoli which is a cross between the market variety broccoli and one type of wild broccoli from Sicily.

The patients participating in the study will eat this hybrid supercharged broccoli for two weeks and then undergo a surgery to have their arthritic leg repaired. The removed tissue during the surgery will be studied by a team of researchers headed by Dr Rose Davidson.
